Nant-y-glo Mine

The picture to the left demonstrates the beauty of working with the dimensions of 4'x2'. Sheets of MDF and Chipboard come pre-cut in this size which enables you to get an instant feel as to how your layout will look. Even though I thought my designs on paper were exactly how I wanted the layout to look, it was only when I started to mock it up on the actual board that I realised that perhaps I had some way to go.

You will see from this picture that the track plan has changed. A passing loop has been introduced and the cutting for the standard gauge line routed out. The mass of wires will eventually control the five Tortoise point motors. I have already started to paint the side of the rails a nice rusty colour before the rest of the ground texture has been laid. Although the bulk of what you see here made it to the final layout, another fairly major design tweak to the track plan was carried out. If you study the final layout in the gallery section, you will see the changes made.
